Why Hidden Journeys?
Hidden Journeys help to develop the existing network of social entrepreneurs further and add other dimensions to it. They serve as a facilitator, enabler and connector to bridge between different individuals, sectors and approaches. They are a platform to share knowledge so that instead of re-inventing the wheel, expertise is shared and built upon.
The Journeys were started by Luna Shrestha Thakur and Catrin Froehlich who spent a few years supporting the ecosystem for social entrepreneurs in Nepal. Among a number of other activities they co-created and executed the first social entrepreneurship competition. During this work they learned about the struggles and accomplishments of the hidden heroes. They understood that on one hand most of them have an amazing array of experiences to share and that on the other hand they could benefit from greater exposure to concepts and success stories from other parts of the world.
At the same time both of them realized that their own inspiration came from fascinating individuals who they met while traveling and working around the world or when such people dropped into their lives while on their own journeys. They decided to scale up their informal way of connecting changemakers to give more people the chance to learn from each other.
'The journey was completely different from all the other experiences I had in Nepal over the last four weeks. I got to see a new side that I would not have experienced otherwise. I would highly recommend the Hidden Journeys and believe that they are journeys that last for a lifetime.'
