How to prepare for a Hidden Journey?
Nepal is a transitional country with all the usual infrastructural challenges and unpredictabilities. The most important preparation therefore is an open mindset, patience and flexibility – some of the same virtues that have made our hosts the resilient changemakers they are today. We always try to keep changes to the schedule to a minimum but we also know that sometimes unexpected changes lead to the most interesting experiences.
We also recommend to come equipped with intercultural sensitivity and appreciation for the small steps that make a difference. Our changemakers might not have answers to all your questions but they appreciate your curiosity and interest.
If you want to learn about social entrepreneurship in Nepal before you start your tour, you can visit the ChangeFusion Nepal website or Facebook page and go to asha2012.wordpress.com.
On the practical side we recommend to bring a bottle of drinking water, sun-protection, sturdy shoes and something warm to cover you on your way home.
What is included?
Our tours include transport from and to the meeting point, lunch, dinner and tea, a well-trained English-speaking facilitator, networking opportunities and reflection sessions to discuss your impressions and learnings. Usually, accommodation and breakfast is not included.
Can you arrange accommodation?
It will be our pleasure to do so. We know a bunch of beautiful hotels and guesthouses, all of them special in their own way. Usually we try to accommodate our guests in one of the beautifully renovated heritage hotels or help you to find a homestay even in the city. Of course we also know where you can find a five star experience in traditional surroundings and the hotel where plastic bags are frowned upon and the owner can tell you how he lobbied for the introduction of safar (clean) tempo (‘tuktuk’) in Nepal
What about discounts?
We can offer reduced fees to students from developing countries and groups of more than 4 people. Please contact us for more information.
What about donations?
We compensate the hosts for their time and all profit from Hidden Journeys is invested in preserving the ecosystem and supporting social entrepreneurs. We do not encourage donations from our guests as we believe in partnerships more than just giving money. However, we are glad to facilitate collaboration and if this results in investment in one of the ventures it is a great acknowledgement of their work.
What about volunteering and internships?
While this is not the focus of our activities we understand that guests can be so impressed by our host’s work that some of them want to learn more through an extended work experience with them. If we see that there is a mutual benefit and a tangible impact is likely to be achieved we are happy to facilitate such opportunities.
What kind of insurance do I need?
All travelers should make sure to arrive to Nepal with a comprehensive travel and health/medical insurance that also covers accidents and evacuation.
